Daniel is an Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at UCLA. His research interests include computational materials design, digital synthesis models, high-throughput simulations, and scientific machine learning. Before joining UCLA, Daniel worked as a Lawrence Fellow in the Quantum Simulations Group (PLS/MSD) at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL).
Daniel obtained a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2022. Prior to MIT, he obtained a M.Sc. in Physics and a B.Sc. in Electronics Engineering from the Aeronautics Institute of Technology, Brazil (ITA).
Daniel received multiple recognitions and awards, including: US Department of Energy Early Career Award (2024), Scialog Fellow (2024), Forbes 30 Under 30: Science (2023), LLNL’s Lawrence Fellowship (2022), MRS Graduate Student Gold Award (2021), MIT Energy Fellowship (2020), and the Brazilian Ministry of Defense Honor Award (2018).
