Research directions and qualifications
Our research projects seek to develop new materials for energy and sustainability using theory, simulations, and machine learning (learn more about some of our research directions). Our work requires strong background in programming and familiarity with data analysis, materials physics, and related areas. Our main programming language is Python, though we also work extensively with Linux, some C++, and other programming languages as needed. Experience with atomistic simulations, HPC, or machine learning/deep learning is a plus. In addition to quality in research, our group strives to provide a diverse, inclusive, and respectful environment for all.
Apply
Postdoc candidates: We currently do not have funded positions available. However, if you are applying to your own funding/fellowships, send Daniel an e-mail with your CV and a brief statement of research interests.
Current/admitted graduate students at UCLA: If you have been admitted to the UCLA graduate program and would like to learn more about our group, send Daniel an e-mail with your CV and transcript to chat about opportunities of working with us.
Undergraduate students: If you are an undergraduate student interested in working with us, please send Daniel an e-mail with your CV and transcript to discuss research opportunities. You can also find information on multiple scholarships and programs for undergraduate research offered by UCLA at the Undergraduate Research Portal and the UCLA Samueli Undergraduate Research Program.
Prospective students: The deadline for applications to the UCLA MSE graduate program starting in the Fall 2025 is Dec. 9th, 2024. Students seeking admission to the graduate program at UCLA should complete the MSE application directly. You do not have to send Daniel an e-mail - all applications are reviewed by a committee after the official deadline (check the instructions carefully). Due to the large volume of e-mails, Daniel is unable to reply to individual inquiries about applications. Some application fee waivers may apply - check the UCLA Admissions FAQs for more information.
